DR. MONET CONCEPCION M. DETRAS is a Professor 1 and the current chair of the Department of Chemical Engineering, CEAT, UPLB. She obtained her BS Chemical Engineering 2004 cum laude; MS Chemical Engineering 2009 UPLB GS Academic Achievement Awardee and earned her PhD degree in Biological and Agricultural Engineering at Texas A&M University, Texas, USA in 2013. Dr. Detras is actively involved in various research projects being implemented in UP Los Banos and other UP Constituent Units. Her research interests include Waste-to-Energy, Bioenergy, Solid and Hazardous Waste Management, Nanofertilizer Formulation, Thermochemical and Electrochemical Processes. She has published various technical articles in international and local Web of Science and Scopus-indexed refereed journals; and book chapters which are being used in teaching Chemical Engineering courses such as ChE 32 (Industrial Stoichiometry) and ChE 284 (Solid Waste Management).
As a testament to her remarkable performance in both teaching and research, Dr. Detras was appointed as UP Scientist I under the UP Scientific Productivity System (2021-2023). She was also awarded the 2019-2021 One UP Faculty Grant Award in Chemical Engineering for Outstanding Teaching and Research in UP Los Banos. She also received two (2) UPLB Centennial Professorial Chair Awards for the period 2017-2018 and 2021-2022. She also has about twenty-two (22) international publication awards to date.
During her term as Chair of the Department of Chemical Engineering, the BS Chemical Engineering program achieved its ASEAN University Network – Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) certification. Dr. Detras also actively reaches out to industries, other academic institutions offering ChE programs, and alumni for the continuous improvement of Chemical engineering education in UPLB and in the country.
