The National Plant Genetic Resources Laboratory (NPGRL) serves as the national center in plant genetic resources activities. It is the national repository of important and potentially useful agricultural crops. NPGRL aims to provide the Institute of Plant Breeding and the national crop improvement programs of broad range of genetic resources for breeding superior crop varieties. It also aims to minimize the rapid erosion of the natural variability existing in our cultivated species and their wild relatives.

NPGRL maintains various germplasm accessions through seeds, field, and in-vitro conservation strategies. The crop groups include: cereals, vegetables, legumes, roots, medicinals, fruits, tree nuts, ornamentals, plantation, pasture and forage, and fiber crops.
