Several individuals and units from UPLB were recognized for their outstanding work and contributions in 2023 by the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP).

Each year, the NRCP recognizes outstanding individuals and institutions for their achievements in different areas.

The NRCP Service Award honors outgoing members of the NRCP Governing Board and members of the NRCP staff for their leadership and service to the Council.

This year’s Service Awards will be given to Dr. Renato SA. Vega, a professor at the Institute of Animal Science and chair of the NRCP Division VI (Agriculture and Forestry) since 2020, and Dr. Leslie Michelle M. Dalmacio, a UPLB alumna and current council president of the NRCP Governing Board since 2023. Dr. Dalmacio also chairs the NRCP Division III (Medical Sciences) from 2020. Dr. Vega and Dr. Dalmacio will end their appointment this month.

Three faculty members and one alumnus are among the eight recipients of the 2023 NRCP Achievement Award, given to regular council members for their various contributions in the fields of biological science, social science, veterinary medicine, and agriculture and forestry.

These faculty members are Dr. Inocencio Buot, Jr., professor at the Institute of Biological Sciences; Dr. Maria Ana T. Quimbo, professor at the College of Public Affairs and Development; and Dr. Remil L. Galay, an associate professor at the College of Veterinary Medicine. UPLB alumnus, Dr. Victor B. Asio, and a professor at Visayas State University, will also receive the NRCP Achievement Award.

One of the three institutions that will receive the 2023 NRCP Outstanding Institution Award is the Institute of Biological Sciences (IBS) under the College of Arts and Sciences. The said award is given to institutions in recognition of their support and contributions to the advancement of basic sciences and humanities in the country.

Aside from Dr. Vega, UPLB has three members in the NRCP Governing Board. Dr. Marian P. De Leon, a University Researcher and current assistant to the vice chancellor for research and extension, serves as the corporate secretary and Division V chair (Biological Sciences). Dr. Aimee-Lyn Dupo, a professor from IBS is the assistant corporate secretary and member-at-large. Dr. Rio John J.
